Best Security Cameras For Your Home

Whether it’s for safety, potential theft, or just your furry friend at home, the security camera industry is bursting at the seams with options. With so many options, it can be overwhelming to pick one to fit your needs. To help you out, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorites:

Best for Comprehensive Security: Arlo Pro 2

This easy to set up, truly wireless indoor/outdoor system isn’t cheap – but highly versatile, with all the features you could ask for. The system requires a base for the system and then you decide how many cameras you’d like to add. While supporting night vision, motion detection, alarms, two-way audio – (the list goes on), there is also free seven-day video recording.

Pros: Truly wireless, great picture in all light, extremely versatile in number of cameras and placement, and smart home technology integration.

Cons: Pricey (because there is a base price), and extremely sensitive motion sensor.

Best Budget / Single Room Camera: Wyze Cam Pan

Although inexpensive – this thing packs a serious punch. With motion tracking, this HD camera can literally track the movement in your home. This small but mighty camera stores up to 14 days on a cloud, or allows for local card storage, as well as live viewing on their app. Unfortunately the need for a cord limits where you plug it in.

Pros: Extremely inexpensive, high-quality camera, 360 pan, alerts for certain frequency sounds, talks to Alexa

Cons: Needs to be plugged in, some complaints of rough motion tracking

Best Affordable, Outdoor Security: Google Nest Cam Outdoor

For a less expensive option than the Arlo Pro 2, and a crystal clear image, the Google Next Cam Outdoor has got your back. While corded, it is the only corded option that is truly waterproof and built specifically for braving the weather. Thanks to Google and Nest technology, get alerts straight to your phone when motion is detected. Be aware though, that Nest requires a monthly $5 subscription for saved video.

Pros: Durable, weatherproof, affordable, clear picture, phone alerts

Cons: Requires cord, needs subscription to save video

Best Indoor Detection: Amazon Cloud Cam

Thanks to Amazon technology, this high-quality video (including in the dark), can be streamed on many Amazon products and most importantly, detect human vs. other motion. Keep the last 24 hours of video for free, and of course, communicate with Alexa and take advantage of 2-way audio.

Pros: Human detection, great night vision, Alexa integrated, 2-way audio, advanced alerts

Cons: Subscription needed for more than 24 hours of saved recording and difficult to save clips or screenshot

Best Doorbell Camera: Ring Video Doorbell 2

For a security camera in just the right spot (aka, the front door), the Ring Video Doorbell 2, allows you to adjust the motion sensitivity (important if you are on a busy street), with affordable video storage options. Alexa can alert you when someone is at the door, and the camera can be powered by cord or battery.

Pros: Motion sensitivity, live or on-demand video viewing, seamless with Alexa, cheaper subscription than Nest

Cons: No facial recognition, need cord or to recharge battery
