Happy Birthday, Facebook!

Seeing that Facebook is now ten years old makes me feel old.  It can’t be ten years old, right?  My goodness, I keep forgetting that the 1990’s weren’t ten years ago…  Perhaps I don’t forget, perhaps it is selective memory.  I feel that is an acceptable diversionary tactic.

Screen Shot 2014-02-07 at 11.10.47 AM

I found some interesting graphs, charts and fact-graphics that provide insight into the size and reach of this social medial giant.  Most of us know well of a life pre-Facebook, but think of the upcoming generations that can’t imagine life without it.

Screen Shot 2014-02-07 at 11.13.10 AM

The United States is clearly in the lead, but Brazil, the United Kingdom and India are hot on our coattails.  How much time do you spend each day on Facebook?  How has it altered your relationships?

219 billion photos on Facebook.  Call me crazy, but I thought it would be more.

Wake Up and Smell the Bacon!

For almost a year now I tell the agents who come to my marketing classes that the most-searched items on Google are cats and bacon.Blue Prom Dresses
No one fully understands this phenomenon and what it says about the American public, but we love our bacon and bacon flavored foods while watching funny cats, itcertworld
clumsy cats, angry cats, sarcastic cats – you put a cat in it and we will watch it on YouTube!

cat-smells-bacon

Maybe we should provide pounds of bacon and a complimentary kitten with each home purchase or sale?

 –

Yesterday I stumbled upon an app that offers the sizzling sound of bacon and the smell.  I always said it’s only a matter of time until we have electronic equipment with smell, folks.  And it’s happening!  The thought frightens me because I am concerned that smelling doughnuts, hamburgers and French fries is going to cause me to gain weight.  Actually I wonder how many of the restaurants will overhaul their delivery services when “smell-vision” rolls out?

 –

Long term – I think this will have detrimental effects on my derrière.

 –

Ok, I got off topic worrying about my waistline…  Oscar Meyer has created, Wake Up and Smell the Bacon – an app and iphone dongle.

 –

 –

It’s an app that overhauls your alarm on your iphone.  The dongle plugs into the headphone jack and when paired with the accompanied sizzling sounds of the alarm app, it releases the smell of bacon as the alarm sounds.

 –

I’m impressed with the technology but as I was reading the press release from their marketing team, they had me at “baconisms”.  In addition to the alarm image and sizzle sounds, there is a soft soothing voice that speaks baconisms throughout the alarm experience.  “Experience bacon with all your senses”,itcertworld exams
she says,  “bacon exceeds everything you ever imagined.”

Screen Shot 2014-03-06 at 1.21.41 PM

To increase the hype and exclusivity, they are not making them for sale. A limited number will be produced and fans will have to take a quiz for a chance to win one of these coveted apps/dongles.

I’m amused.  Does this have any staying power?  I doubt it. Cisco 400-101 dumps
But it tops out on the creative meter and gets me thinking about all endless number of cool things you can do with today’s technology, Sexy Prom Dresses
smart phones, and now, a scented dongle.

Wallpaper: Not Just for Walls

Isn’t it funny how things trend “in” and “out”? Old things become new again if you wait long enough, but they will be referred to as “vintage” or “classic”.

I’m not so sure that’s true with wallpaper.  Maybe it is.

What are your options for walls – wallpaper or paint, right?  Paint.  Its hard to compete with paint.  Paint is affordable, easy and it doesn’t require the time and patience wallpaper does.  And don’t even get me started if you have to match a wallpaper pattern!  Many a sitcom or cartoon has gotten a hearty laugh at the expense of the actor trying to put up wallpaper.  wallpaper furniture

It’s interesting to note how the definition of wallpaper has changed.  To those of us over the age of, hmmm, thirty, maybe?  It means “a decorative paper-like covering for the walls of a home or office.”  For the younger crowd, it means the background on your smart devices or computer.  I googled ‘wallpaper’ and only got screen images available as designs, texture, anime characters, etc.  Oh how times have changed!

I digress; back to wallpaper…

Today though, as with many, many things – we are encouraged to think out of the proverbial box – how to repurpose or use something differently than its original intent.  I want to encourage you to think that way about wallpaper.

Try these ideas on for size and let me know if you come up with a few more!

  • Wallpaper the ceiling instead of the walls.  There are so many cool ways to do this its in someone else’s blog!  Nice job, lushome.com
  • Wallpaper your furniture.  There are several sites on Pinterest that help you see how you can do this.  (I think I would lose my furniture if the same wallpaper was on the walls and the furniture, kind of like losing a hunter in camo in the woods!)
  • Use wallpaper as a mat in a frame – an affordable alternative to mats
  • Use it as art in a frame.  A nice section of a print, busy or simple, can be a lovely collage on a wall or a stan alone piece
  • A piece of wallpaper under glass on a coffee table, display or desk
  • Bookcovers – for actual use or decorative on a bookshelf
  • Wallpaper the outlet covers and paint the walls
  • Wallpaper in a large frame or framed out on a wall.  (Especially good for an apartment where you can cover nail holes, but you can’t remove wallpaper paste without serious damage.)
  • Wallpaper the stairs!
  • Wallpaper only the top of a desk or piece of furniture, or use it under glass for a less permanent solution

modern-wallpaper-ceiling-designs-home-interiors-3 wallpaper stairs-RESIZEDI’d love to hear any other creative ideas you can come up with for wallpaper!

Ninja – The Installation

“Ninja” – you might not know what that means, but we do!  Ninja Selling is a tool for relationship building and management.  Really it’s about the importance of balance – between work and personal. It’s about connections, meaningful relationships and enjoying your career.  Do you want to work with someone who loves what they do or someone who is just earning a check?
 –
Today we have a guest post from one of our agents in the Murfreesboro Office.
Bud George has been with Bob Parks Realty since 1998.  He sold real estate full-time through mid-2006 and then was the Bob Parks’ Company Coach through 2010.  He went back to full-time sales in October 2010 and has used the Ninja system to develop a completely referral based business closing 40 transaction sides in 2011, 80+ in 2012, and over 110 in 2013.

The Premier Property Group and Bob Parks Realty / PARKS hosted a Ninja Selling Installation the week of February 3rd for 50 of their agents from both the Nashville and Florida real estate agents. As Larry Kendall, the author of Ninja Selling, says, “ninja selling is a system based on a philosophy of building relationships, listening to the customer, and then helping them achieve their goals.”  It’s about relationships and the platinum rule…do unto others as they want done.

 –

Bob Parks real estate agents have been involved with the Ninja Selling coaching program for over twelve years.  I was one of those in the first classes that we had within the company.  I can truly say that the coaching program has helped me in both my career and my life.  This past week was a great reminder of the principles that we have learned through the years.  The class also had many people that were new to real estate and I can think of no better way to start a career than attending the four-day class.

In 1941, the Sewart Air Force Base was established in Smyrna. This base served as the B-52 advanced training facility. The base received it’s name after Major Alan Sewart, and continued to train military personnel until closure in 1971.

A few years after the Sewart Air Force Base closed their doors, Smyrna got word that Nissan would build a plant in town. The plant employed many who had lost their jobs due to the closure of the base, and the first Nissan car was produced in 1983. If you choose to move into a brand new home in Smyrna, TN, make sure you stop by the Nissan plant for a tour!

Due to the economic growth of the town, many businesses and industries are flocking to Smyrna to build their roots.
